Once an initial
environmental survey has been carried out it can act as a baseline against which further environmental monitoring surveys can be compared.
Marine environmental monitoring surveys involve returning to the original survey area, collecting samples, analysing them, interpreting the data and, where possible, explaining any changes that may have occurred.
Previous projects have been undertaken in UKCS waters from southern North Sea to the west of Shetland regions, as well as internationally (West Africa, Caspian, Malaysia, Peru), and include:
-
Baseline studies (continental shelf and deepwater areas)
-
Pre- and post- surveys
-
Cutting pile assessment
-
Outfall studies
-
Skilled-eye appraisals
-
Intertidal studies
-
JNCC/MNCR recording protocols
-
Provision of client representatives and scientific support staff
-
Provision of marine mammal observers
-
Data review, assessment and compilation of data and fully interpretative reports
